Five Pillars of Islam
Five foundations that guide a Muslim’s faith, worship and care for others.
Shahadah
الشهادة
Declaration of faith
The testimony that there is no god worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. It is the foundation of Muslim belief.
Salah
الصلاة
Prayer
Muslims perform five daily prayers: Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib and Isha. Prayer connects us with Allah and brings worship into everyday life.
Zakat
الزكاة
Obligatory giving
Muslims who meet the conditions give a prescribed share of eligible wealth to those entitled to receive it. Zakat supports people in need and reminds us of our responsibility to others.
Sawm
الصوم
Fasting in Ramadan
During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn until sunset, abstaining from food, drink and other things that break the fast. Islam provides exemptions for those who qualify. Fasting encourages devotion, patience and compassion.
Hajj
الحج
Pilgrimage to Makkah
Hajj is the pilgrimage to Makkah, required once in a lifetime for Muslims who are physically and financially able to perform it. It brings Muslims together in worship and unity.
